A Year in Review - Suffolk, VA Photographer

I can't believe another year has come and gone!  2011 might be one of the craziest years I've had yet... and also one of the most spectacular : )

To name just a few of the highlights:
~ became a family of three courtesy of Emerson
~ quit working as a Social Worker to stay home with Emerson and learned to balance photography and
baby (shooting weddings and fitting in pumping sessions was no easy task)
~ did alot of learning and growing in the area of faith and depending on God
~ celebrated 4 years of marriage to my wonderful husband
~ moved (for the 4th time in our 4 years of marriage) from Columbia, SC to Suffolk, VA
~ learned alittle more about faith and depending on God : )
~ started working again as a Social Worker for a hospice and traded Emerson duties with daddy
~ and celebrated one year of life with our little miss on Dec. 31 (a wonderful way to top off the year : )

It was a busy year and because of it I had to learn to say no to things, which also meant turning down photography opportunities and putting some business developments on the back burner.  It was hard, but I'm so thankful that I did say no because there was no way I could juggle everything that I was given and come out with a happy baby, happy husband, and some sanity.  Thankfully, I think I have all three!  I did however manage to squeeze in a several sessions and a few weddings and I wanted to share a few of my favorite images from them.

Also, I thought it would be fun to link my blogpost from this day last year... just so happens I did my year end recap on this very day a year ago... plus it has one of my favorite images of Emerson : )

Hello from Suffolk, Virginia - Suffolk, VA Photographer

So, it has been exactly a month since my last post... slacker!  Well, not really.  In my defense, I have packed up my whole house and moved from Columbia, SC to Suffolk, VA, unpacked and settled in at the new house, started a full-time job, traded baby duty with my husband, flew to Boston (baby in tow) for my cousin's wedding, drove back to Columbia, SC to shoot a wedding (can't wait for you to meet this cute couple) and finally had a nice leisure weekend in Suffolk.  So, forgive me for being away for so long, but it was all necessary for my sanity : )

Life is looking alittle different these days and it may look alittle different around this blog these next few months.  In case you missed it, I accepted a Social Work position with a Hospice company here in Suffolk. At this time, it is the best decision for our family as my husband continues with the interview and job search process for himself.  So, what does this mean for photography???  I'm still accepting clients and scheduling sessions, but on a MUCH more limited basis.  My family is my priority and sessions and weddings will be scheduled around family time.  I'm sure you understand.  I will be updating the blog with sessions and weddings, but not as often as I have been : (

I am still available for weddings in South Carolina, but I am definitely up for weddings in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia- Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Williamsburg, etc.  I can't wait to get started shooting here... it is BEAUTIFUL and I've already seen a dozen or so gorgeous locations to shoot at and that's just referring to my 5 mile radius!

So, I'm planning to post a family session for Wednesday... hope you will check back in!

And here is my little pumpkin : )

Goodbye Columbia & Hello Virginia / Suffolk, VA Photographer

Well, this might come as a very abrupt announcement to some people, but I am officially moving to Suffolk, VA.  This has been in the works for some time now, but I haven't mentioned it yet because there was still a slight chance that it wasn't going to happen.  Well, its officially happening... has happened.  In fact, I am currently in New Bern, NC visiting with my in-laws while my wonderful husband has been loading, driving, and unloading a massive U-haul truck (with the help of some great friends).

I will be joining him in Suffolk tomorrow and will, for the first time, lay eyes on our new home.  Oh, the adventures of the Pace family!  The other day we realized that we have moved four times in four years (every year of our marriage, we have moved)!  That is nuts considering how much we HATE packing and unpacking.  And besides that, moving is not exactly something that you want to be doing when trying to get a business up and going, but I have been so thankful for such wonderful clients who enjoy telling their friends about my photography and who have helped my business grow in such short periods of time... thank you!

So, I will be consumed with unpacking and getting little girl situated in her new house these next few days and things might get alittle slow on the blog, BUT I will be back soon and have a great family session to share with you.

Enjoying Family, Columbia, SC Children's Photographer

Sorry that I have been MIA on the blog recently.  I have been enjoying time with family.  I just wanted to let you know that I'm still here, images are still being edited, and work is still being done.  I let myself off the blogging hook for a bit, but will be back regularly next week.  I can't wait to show you the wedding I have been working on.  Until then... here is my little miss who is getting so big!  She will be 6 months old this week.  I'm loving this new stage we are in with her.  She is so interactive and her personality is coming alive.  I love it!

Loved Me Some American Honey, Wedding Photographer in Columbia, SC

So yesterday I was in Charlotte all day, left Columbia at 7:15 a.m. and did not pull back in until 11:45 p.m., for a workshop by Justin and Mary Marantz called Walk Through a Wedding.  It was incredible!  I was like a sponge soaking up everything the talented husband and wife duo were saying and trying to snap shots in between.

This next part might be TMI, but I just have to share.  All you nursing moms will love this : )

Don't worry about the fact that I pulled up early to the workshop (keep in mind that I'm a  new mom and nursing and this was my first day away from my baby, tear) and got all ready to "pump" only to discover that I left some crucial pieces at home!  I almost started hyperventilating and then I almost reverted to crying and then I almost turned around and drove home... it was awful, but I ended up holding it together and driving myself to Target to get a substitute, a manual : (  So, I was 45 minutes late to the workshop, but I am so glad that I used my problem-solving skills and labor breathing techniques to keep my cool enough to enjoy the day, meet alot of great photographers, and learn some new things.  AND a big thanks to my mom for watching the babe : )

Here is one of the images I caught from the day.  We had some great models!

American Honey... Yes, Please! Columbia, SC Wedding Photographer

In March, I am going to be participating in a wedding photography workshop.  Call me crazy, but when I initially signed up and submitted my payment to participate I had little-to-no idea of what was in store.  All I knew was that I loved the work of the teaching photographers, Justin and Mary Marantz.  Finally, last week, the photographers sent out a sneak peek of the lovely things that we would have the opportunity to shoot at the workshop.  I am EC-STATIC!!!  The theme is called American Honey.  I just love all the details and the colors.  Check out the inspiration board below that they created.

Brides- make a photographers day and incorporate some gorgeous details like these into your special day.  Having a subtle theme like American Honey can help you focus your planning and decorating and personalize your event.  These kinds of items make for a fun way to display unique characteristics about you and your groom... telling your guests a story without using words.

It's all in the details!

Only Three Sessions Left!!!

I only have availability for three more sessions this year before the mad rush of finishing up orders in time for Christmas and then before my MATERNITY LEAVE!  It's still weird saying that and I only have 10 weeks left until Emerson makes her appearance (I guess I better hurry up and get used to the idea : )  Maternity leave will be from Dec. 23rd- mid/late February depending on when she arrives.  During that time, I will still be monitoring emails and scheduling sessions for after maternity leave.
Also, Christmas card orders are due no later than Nov. 20th.

Officially in the Moving Process

I just wanted to do a quick post to let you all know that we are officially in the middle of boxes, uhaul trucks, packing and unpacking.  So, this next week I might not be as prompt at returning emails, etc.  Don't worry though... orders are processing, images are being edited, and upcoming sessions are still on go!  As of Friday, we will be without internet and this will last probably till Tuesday.  BUT, I do plan on stopping by Starbucks and checking in whenever I have a few minutes.  I just love that there will be Starbucks a moments drive away from our house!!!

Thanks for your patience!!!

Change - Columbia, SC Children's Photographer

In my last post, I mentioned that I have alot going on and I wanted to take a second to share with you so as to keep you in the loop.  My husband has taken a new job in Columbia, SC and beginning Sept. 1 we will begin the much enjoyable process of moving, and hopefully complete the move over the course of Labor Day weekend.  A side note on Sept. 1- it is my 3 year wedding anniversary : )
So what does this mean for photography and for my clients in Lancaster?  Nothing!  I am only a short drive away and this in no way effects my willingness and eagerness to have clients and sessions in Lancaster.  I have several sessions coming up in Sept. and Oct. along with several orders to deliver and clients to meet with.  So, I will still be around and available!

A few other items I wanted to mention:
1- THANK YOU so much to all my past and current clients for giving me so many opportunities to get to know your families and photograph such sweet faces!  I have been overwhelmed and grateful at the amount of "work" that has come my way in the few short months that Lindsey Pace Photography has been established.
2- Keep in mind that if you refer someone who books a session with me, you get a $50 credit to use towards a future session.
3- Thanks to Rose of Bittersweet Design Boutique for my new blog background and watermark.  I love everything she does and there is more to come : )
4-  Christmas Cards!  Yep, that's right!  I already have my 2010 cards picked out and ready for you to choose from.  I will post images of them in the next few weeks for you to see.  That are to-die-for!  This will have an ordering deadline of Oct. so that they arrive in plenty of time for Christmas.  I wish my little one was going to be here in time for Christmas so I could put HER on a Christmas card.  I should probably be careful what I wish for, right?
5- In case you haven't heard, the little baby who has lovingly been referred to as Sweet "P" is officially a GIRL and officially has a name- Emerson Greenlee Pace, aka "Emmy."  Greenlee is my middle name and my mom's maiden name.  I totally thought it was going to be a boy (not sure why) and I was so shocked when I found out it was a girl.  We are thrilled to say the least!

Last but not least, what is a post without some images!?!  These are from the gender party we had to find out what we were having.  Our parents and friends gathered for the festivities and we had a great time.

Thanks to:
Edible Art for the incredible cake
Johannes for letting us celebrate at the beautiful Inn at Kilburnie
My dad for being the camera man : )

This is the group that thought it would be a boy.

Here is the girl group.

Anticipation

It's a girl!

The sweet ultrasound tech wrote down on a sticky what we were having and put it in a sealed envelope for us to drop off to the bakery.

Casting Call for an Upcoming Session!

Currently, I am involved in a photography mentoring group led by the lovely Kelli France of France Photography out of Colorado.  I have a couple of different assignments to complete for the mentoring that require me to schedule and shoot a couple different sessions.  I think this is a great opportunity for me to explore and practice some new techniques I will be learning, but also for you to receive a great session with some perks : )  So, I am having a casting call!  I actually already have two sessions lined up- a senior session and a children's session, but I am still in need of a BABY for a newborn/baby session!

Here is what I am looking for:

I would either like a newborn that is 1-10 days old or a baby that is old enough to sit up but not old enough to crawl.  No older than 6 months.
The session can be done either Sunday, May 30th @ 4:30ish or on Monday, May 31st @ TBA.  This session must take place at your home.  So, you can't be home shy : )  This session could possibly take up to three hours... gotta be patient with babies : )

Perks and Details:

~ Must live within 30 minutes of Lancaster, SC.
~ The Creative Fee is waived : )  Normally my creative fee is $150.  So, that is a savings of $150!
~ Prints and products are available for purchase at the regular rates.
~ A signed model release is required.
~ I will have full creative control with location, props, wardrobe, and posing.

If you are interested, please email me and I will be in touch with you.  I only need one baby.  So, if you email me and I have already filled the spot, I will be happy to keep your information for any future casting calls.

Please help me spread the word to the baby mama's : )
Thanks!

~Lindsey

P.S. Here are a few shots from a newborn session I did in December.

"Where Life Meets the Lens"

Don't you just love the tagline!?! So, just maybe you've been admiring my fabulous logo... I know I have : ) I feel like it is such a great representation of my style of photography! Creating my logo and brand has been one of the most exciting and fun things I have gotten to do lately, but I did not do it alone... nope, I enlisted the expertise of a FABULOUS designer named Rose of Bittersweet Design Boutique. I contacted Rose in January and after many phone calls, emails, and designing... she came up with my logo and business card. Getting the completed files was like Christmas! Really, Rose was incredible. If you are in need of a designer for anything- wedding invitations, party invitations, business items, etc. I highly recommend her! You can visit her blog for a more in depth look at my logo and brand as well as many others she has created.

~Lindsey

P.S. I did a shoot today with an incredible girl... not just any girl... Miss Charleston Teen! I can't wait to show you some of the images... she is adorable! Here is a sneak peek:
